FAQ
Your question isn’t covered? Send us an email and we’ll find the answer.
Unfortunately, there is no specific date for the first Nature Day yet. We are currently intensively looking for a first pilot city as well as partner NGOs and local companies to plan and hold the first Nature Day together. So that you don't miss out on when it starts in your area, you can already sign up for our newsletter at hello@natureday.eu.
Currently, we are planning Nature Day as a day of action in Germany only. If you don’t currently live in Germany, please let us know and we’ll endeavour to find a way for you to participate in some way. For the volunteer team at Nature Day e.V., it doesn't matter where you live. We’re always on the lookout for new talent, all over the world.
Logistically speaking it’s easier and environmentally it makes more sense for you to take part where you live. Travelling longer distances to participate in Nature Day should be avoided for the sake of nature. If you split your time between two places – e.g. you are on a dual study degree - then you can choose where you take part.
Taking part by yourself is only possible for the over-14s for insurance, safeguarding and legal reasons. If your school, KITA or youth group organises its own activity, you can of course participate as part of your group with your teachers and facilitators. If you are under-14 and you would like to sign up for an activity with your parent or guardian, let us know by email.
We are working on solutions to offer activities and workshops for under-14s in future.
We’re happy to support you to convince your employer to give you the day off. If you have colleagues who want to take part get together and present your employer with all the benefits. If all else fails, consider whether you can afford to take a day’s leave.
For individuals participation is completely free. We are currently workings towards building a travel and refreshment fund to support those who cannot easily afford these expenses.
As we are a charitable organisation, all donations are currently used to cover costs for our project work that we cannot do ourselves as volunteers and resources that we need to get from suppliers like our IT infrastructure, licences and materials like seedlings for tree planting or solar panels (for which in-kind donations are most welcome!). We’ll also use donations to cover expenses for community organisations that offer a workshop or activity. Longer-term, we’ll have to employ people and cover certain operational costs.
Nature Day is meant to be a place for encounters so that you can meet and have exchanges with people of different backgrounds, ages and perspectives during the workshops and activities. It’s totally fine to come with someone you know if coming by yourself does not feel right. We’d like to encourage you though to dare it by yourself and meet new people. We promise you an unforgettable day full of learning and eureka moments!
We are working on ensuring that there will be an offer for families with under-6s. You’ll be able to find our family-friendly actvities and workshops in our catalogue.
If you are in receipt of benefits or cannot afford travel costs, get in touch with us. Depending on our budget, we’ll aim to cover the cost of a day ticket on public transport.
Everyone should have the chance to take part in Nature Day. Get in touch with your contact at the job centre. If you need help with this, let us know. We can provide you with an attendance certificate afterwards that you can submit to the job centre.
We are working towards ensuring that there will be workshops and activities in the main languages that are spoken in any one city/municipality and to have interpreters available. But as the focus of the day is on getting stuck into action language barriers shouldn’t be a big problem: there will be a lot of practical demonstrations and guidance.
Of course, you can. Suitable and accessible workshops and activities are clearly marked in our catalogue.
